Chemical Constituents: Monoterpenes (up to 95%): d-limonene (<90%), terpinolene, myrcene, α-pinene; Tetraterpenes (<8%): β-carotene (<6%), lycopene; Aldehydes (<8%): citral, decanal, citronellal, dodecanal, nonanal, octanal, α-sinensal; Alcohols (<6%): linalol, cis & trans-carveol, α-terpineol, geraniol; Ketones (<4%): l- & d-carvone (<3%), α-ionone; Esters (<3%): citronellyl acetate, geranyl acetate, linalyl acetate, methyl anthranilate; Furanoids: auraptene, bergaptole, imperatarine; Sesquiterpene Ketones: nootkatone.

Properties: Anticancer, antidepressant, antiseptic, antispasmodic, digestive, sedative, and tonic.

Common Primary Uses: Anxiety, calming, constipation, indigestion, obesity, oily skin, uplifting, water purification.

Folklore: According to Roberta Wilson, “From early times, oranges have been associated with generosity and gratitude. Once called ‘golden apples,’ oranges symbolized innocence and fertility.”

Historical Uses: Oranges, particularly the bitter orange, have been used for palpitation, scurvy, jaundice, bleeding, heartburn, relaxed throat, prolapse of the uterus and the anus, diarrhea, and blood in the feces.

French Medicinal Uses: Angina (false), cardiac spasm, constipation, diarrhea (chronic), dyspepsia (nervous), insomnia, menopause, palpitation.

Other Possible Uses: This oil may help appetite, bones (rickety), bronchitis, colds, colic (dilute for infants; helps them sleep), complexion (dull and oily), dermatitis, digestive system, fever, flu, lower high cholesterol, mouth ulcers, muscle soreness, obesity, sedation, tissue repair, water retention, and wrinkles.
